Melbourne Royal Community Acknowledgement

The Melbourne Royal Board, management and staff were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Brian Alford.

Brian's association with the Melbourne Royal Show spanned more than 65 years, reflecting a remarkable commitment to Melbourne Royal and the community he cared deeply about. Brian devoted countless hours to the Beef Cattle Competition, generously contributing his time, expertise and energy to support the success of the event and the broader livestock industry.

Brian's dedicated service was recognised through a number of prestigious honours. In 1988, he was awarded Honorary Life Membership of Melbourne Royal, followed by the President's Medal in 1990 in recognition of his unwavering contribution to the cattle competition.

In 2015, he became the inaugural recipient of the Beef Cattle Hall of Fame Award, acknowledging his exceptional commitment and lasting impact on the success of the Melbourne Royal Show.

Brian will be remembered not only for his dedication and leadership, but also for his kindness, generosity and genuine passion for the Beef Cattle Competition and the people involved in it. His contribution has left an enduring legacy that will remain an important part of Melbourne Royal's story.
